The guardian said "oblivion for you and all who know you" so she rewrote all their lives essentially, as a whimsical gift because he could never go back to the queen after he had rejected his duty in favor of Nirin. This is kinda an alternate life path where he is not a guard to the queen, just a wandering swordsman and Skylar happens to be a master necromancer touring the south. So, they all met again.

Ah, I see, this makes more sense. I had been under the impression that Alyn had died and that the guardian had simply erased all recollection of him. I must admit I much prefer you explanation ;)
